We like to think that our magical estate is one of the jewels of the area and we’re delighted to be able to share this special space with those who choose to visit us.
The Llanfendigaid Estate is tucked away on one of the most breathtaking stretches of Welsh coastline and yet, nestled in the midst of Snowdonia National Park, known for its challenging climbs and stunning rural landscapes.
Flexible Accommodation
Llanfendigaid’s varied self-catering holiday properties offer the flexibility to select the house that best suits you and your fellow guests. Llanfendigaid House is the perfect option for larger groups, while The Pod and The Shepherd’s Hut cater wonderfully well for couples or solo adventurers. The Cow Shed, Dove Cottage and Stable Cottage are super options for families or small groups of friends.
Llanfendigaid is incredibly popular with families looking for an indoor/outdoor holiday with welcoming accommodation and plenty of space for children to safely explore and spend time in nature. However, the secluded setting of The Pod and The Shepherd’s Hut are hard to resist for a romantic break with some of the best views in Wales.

Due to the estate’s rural setting, it offers a relaxed environment for a stress-free getaway or get-together in beautiful Wales. Free from background noise and light pollution – the area is one of only eighteen International Dark Sky Reserves in the world – you can expect a soul-enriching stay and spectacular stargazing opportunities. A rich history
Llanfendigaid (which translates as ‘Parish of the Blessed’) is steeped in history. The Nanny-Wynn family and their forebears owned and lived at the estate for more than eight centuries until early 2022.
The three-storey Georgian manor house was built in the 13th century and was renovated to its present design in 1746. A Grade II* listed building of special historic importance, it sits proudly at the centre of the estate’s 16 acres … somewhat smaller than the 16,000 acres that it once covered that stretched all the way from Harlech in the north to Aberystwyth in the south.
There are royal connections too with John Nanney marrying an Anwyl heiress in the early 17th century; a family directly descended from Owain Gwynedd, the King of Gwynedd from 1137 until his death in 1170, and the first to be styled Prince of Wales. According to folklore, the infamous cave in which Owain hid from the English is located on a remote beach nearby. See if you can find it!
The Estate Today
The Llanfendigaid Estate is now owned by Gareth Roberts and Lisa Kay, both of whom have family connections and a strong sense of belonging and love for Wales.
Their fondness and sentiment for the area led Gareth and Lisa to seize the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take over the estate in 2022. You will likely see them from time to time strolling through the grounds with Izzy, Scarlett, Tilly and dog Barley, passing down their love for Llanfendigaid to the younger members of the family.
Llanfendigaid & the Environment
Sustainability
Climate Change is very daunting and we all have a responsibility to take positive climate action. Being the custodians of Grade 2* listed properties within the Snowdonia National Park does add challenges to being green. However, we are determined to do the right thing and have an ambitious sustainability plan. To date, we have ensured that all incoming electricity is now supplied from renewable energy. We have installed a huge new ground source heat pump system that will ultimately heat all of the properties at the Estate. This has enabled the switch of Stable Cottage, Dove Cottage, The Cow Shed and the Swimming Pool away from oil/gas and to the ground source heating.
In 2024, we will install PV solar panels in an adjacent field (well screened!) to provide enough on-site renewable electricity for all the properties. In 2025, we will install a number of fast charging EV charging points. Our wider sustainability plan includes rewarding guests for sustainable travel, developing more areas of rewilding to encourage biodiversity, only ever using local suppliers, fully eliminating all plastic usage, maximising reuse and upcycling whenever feasible, eliminating any waste to landfill, composting, rainwater tanks for the gardens, tree planting projects and so on.
